We know how unpredictable Iowa winters can be and how important it is for you and your vehicle to be prepared for what may come. The items in the list below all share one thing in common; they are key ingredients for an emergency kit and recipe for survival. In no particular order of importance, your Vehicle's Winter Survival Kit should contain all of the following items:

  • Bottled water
  • Blankets (small)
  • Booster cables
  • Cell phone and charger
  • Energy bars and easy open snacks
  • Extra hat, socks, mittens
  • First aid kit
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • Florescent flag
  • Identification card with emergency contact info
  • Kitty litter or rock salt
  • Matches
  • Pocket knife
  • Reflectors
  • Roadside assistance membership and phone #
  • Small shovel
  • Whistle
  • Windshield scraper
  • WD-40 spray or de-icer

Your survival kit doesn't have to weigh down your car or take up too much space. It can be a safe plastic container best placed under any passenger seat or compartment area j ust before your trip. This way if you have a frozen locked trunk, you can still access the kit.

Remember to replenish the supplies once used. And also, like after any long trip, be sure to get your vehicle and tires checked out at your trusted service center.

    Have a safe winter!
